About
Esther Ann Menorah
The Esther Anne Menorah is tied for the largest menorah in the world, standing tall at 32 feet, against the backdrop of the downtown Baltimore skyline. It was designed with an industrial art style, a favorite of the Menorah’s sponsor Howard Brown, and has the word Baltimore proudly displayed on its nine branches.

Howard – A major Baltimore developer, who has built multiple Jewish institutions throughout the city, undertook the project of creating and assembly of the Menorah in memory of his daughter Esther Anne.

The Menorah is kindled every year, at the Baltimore Chanukah Festival at McKeldin Square, and illuminates a new branch for each of the eight nights of Chanukah.

Feel free to pass by and take a selfie, at the Maryland’s largest Menorah!
Festival
The Baltimore Chanukah Festival is a project of Chabad Lubavitch Centers of Greater Baltimore in conjunction with Baltimore City, Office of the Mayor, Council President and Police Department.

The Festival aims to bring the joy of Chanukah and its messages of freedom of religious practice and unity to all.
Chanukah
Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.

The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple(as you’ll read below). Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling), the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural, “kh” sound, kha-nu-kah, not tcha-new-kah.
